WHAT WE DO
Founded in 2015, the National Institute for Risk and Resilience (“The Risk Institute”) is an umbrella organization that facilitates collaboration among University of Oklahoma research centers, individual scholars, and external partners on risk-related teaching, research and outreach. Our focus is on the application of interdisciplinary approaches for understanding and addressing societal risks, and increasing the resilience of communities and society in the face of natural, technological and human hazards. The Risk Institute draws on the expertise of a Board of Advisors comprised of OU faculty and administrators, as well as leaders from the risk community. A team of interdisciplinary faculty, staff and students are affiliated with the Institute across multiple OU Colleges, Departments and Centers.

- Interdisciplinary Risk-related Research
To build from existing strengths and increase interdisciplinary risk-related research at the University of Oklahoma by building sustained and creative collaborations among faculty, staff and students with expertise from engineering, the social sciences, business, meteorology, earth sciences, the humanities, and others.
To work with University of Oklahoma faculty and administrators, as well as risk practitioners to build flexible certificate programs in risk related to public policy, meteorology, public management, engineering, business and other disciplines. These programs will be tailored to meet the needs of professional and midcareer practitioners as well as OU graduate and undergraduate students from multiple colleges and departments.
To attract public and private sector practitioners from national laboratories, government agencies, and private firms to participate in an online and on-campus practitioner program that will provide resources for expanding their skill sets, and that will employ their experience in Institute teaching and research.
